STARTALK Summer 2010 – Arabic Teaching in Action

About this Course

The aim of this course is to provide a comprehensive training to the methodology and best practices of teaching Arabic as a foreign language.

The online workshop covers Arabic teaching methodologies as implemented in real classrooms.

This online workshop will equip participants as Arabic language teachers:

  1. With the skills necessary to enhance their teaching quality and performance in the classroom.
  2. With the most effective methodologies in teaching Arabic as a foreign language.
  3. With the ability to incorporate the National Standards of Arabic Language of the 21st Century, as developed by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) into their teaching practices.


What you will learn

  • Demonstrate a professional growth in modern communicative methods and best instructional practices, with particular reference to the National Standards of the 21st Century.
  • Identify the learning needs of any group of Arabic language learners at various ages and proficiency levels, and modify and update such needs analysis in light of observation, reflection and testing.
  • Write instructional objectives and prepare appropriate lesson plans.
  • Discuss reflectively a repertoire of teaching and learning resources.
  • This online class is also in preparation for those who qualify for the two weeks onsite intensive workshop at California State University, San Bernardino.
