Al-Masdar: The Source for Arabic Teaching and Learning

Al-Masdar means “The Source” in Arabic and is a rich website, providing essential teaching and learning resources, opportunities, and a virtual community for Arabic language professionals and students in the United States. Developed by CLASSRoad, the site allows teachers to build professional affinity groups, co-author instructional material in both English and Arabic, share resource evaluations based on the National Standards for Foreign Language Education, as well as discover a wealth of open educational resources (OERs). By enabling and encouraging site users to share their own resource creations, and expand on and adapt the resources shared by others, Al-Masdar serves as a robust Arabic content database, and as a unique hub—or source—for Arabic teaching resource collaboration and innovation.

Al-Masdar was developed in partnership with ISKME and is funded through Qatar Foundation International (QFI), a U.S. based non-profit and member of Qatar Foundation (QF). QFI focuses on grant-giving and programmatic activities that promote education as a force that facilitates collaboration across geographical, social, and cultural boundaries.
